Jomella Watson-Thompson is leading one of only five federally-funded national centers of excellence on youth violence prevention with the Youth Violence Prevention Research Center-Kansas City (YVPC-KC).

The Assistive Technology for Kansans Advisory Council, learned about initiatives to increase communication and technology access across the state on March 23 during the council’s spring meeting.

People with disabilities represent the nation’s single largest and fastest growing minority group, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with more than 1 in 4 adults qualifying as disabled. However, up to nearly half of this population may be uncounted.

LAWRENCE – The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment at the University of Kansas will kick off its spring seminar series featuring a talk on community-responsive interventions for addictive behaviors. Monica Webb Hooper from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities will offer the talk at 10:30 a.m. on February 19. 

The aptly named SWIFT Education Center (Schoolwide Integrated Framework for Transformation), funded by one of the largest grants in KU history of $24 million, has rapidly hit its goals since it was funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs in October 2012.

The KU Center for Civic and Social Responsibility honored Jomella Watson-Thompson with one of its 2016 Faculty and Student Excellence in Service Learning Awards presented April 7 on the KU-Lawrence campus.

LAWRENCE — Twenty-five women with ties to the University of Kansas are featured in the 2015-2016 Women of Distinction calendar. The Emily Taylor Resource Center for Women & Gender Equity, which produces the poster-sized calendar, will host a reception to honor the women and their achievements Monday, Aug. 31.
