Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant - Las Cruces Public Schools

JRP Hall, home to the Center for Research on Learning

Researchers and SIM professional developers at KUCRL are providing technical assistance for implementation of SIM instructional tools and interventions based on needs identified by the Las Cruces Public School literacy leadership team and school-based literacy teams. As part of their adolescent literacy initiative, we are facilitating professional learning experiences and considerations for associated infrastructure support for their six high schools across English, science, social studies, special education, and English language learning services. Additionally, we are working with their 8th grade English/language arts teams, specific to academic transition to the high school setting.

The scope of work encompasses activities required to 1) provide overviews of the Strategic Instruction Model, 2) conduct exploratory phase activities (e.g., surveys and planning meetings), 3) provide ongoing professional development and coaching for SIM Learning Strategies, Content Enhancement Routines, and a SIM reading program, 4) support implementation and sustainability phase activities (e.g., teacher leadership teams, capacity building for on-site coaching through micro-credentialing, and infrastructure support), and 5) support schools in data collection to evaluate their goal progress related to adolescent literacy growth.
