Biography —
Derek Reed is a Scientist in the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment and a Professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas where he directs the Applied Behavioral Economics Laboratory. He is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at the Doctoral Level, and a Licensed Behavior Analyst in the State of Kansas. Derek received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Illinois State University and his Master’s and PhD in School Psychology from Syracuse University. He has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and The Psychological Record. Derek has over 150 publications, coauthored three edited books and one textbook, and has won numerous awards for his scholarship, such as the American Psychological Association Division 25 B. F. Skinner Foundation New Applied Researcher Award and the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences Early Career Award. He served as Coordinator of the ABAI Science Board and serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior, of which he was previously Executive Director. Derek’s research investigates quantitative models of choice and reinforcer efficacy, as well as the role of reinforcement pathologies of health and addictive behaviors. Toward this end, he specializes in the development of behavioral economic measures of substances of abuse and risky health decisions, with the aim of using these concepts and measures to inform treatment and public policy.
