Special issue explores the complex genetic landscape around diverse IDDs

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) network has completed their 2023 publication section in the Journal of Neurodevelopmental Disorders focused on "Etiological heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and polygenicity in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs)." The issue includes seven new publications from IDDRC investigators across the country. The full section is now available online.

The 2023 edition was led by guest editors Jessica Girault, Ph.D., and Hyejung Won, Ph.D., both from the University of North Carolina, and Olivia Veatch, Ph.D., from the University of Kansas.

The issue explores the complex genetic landscape around diverse IDDs, and it offers several important study paradigms and conceptual frameworks that highlight how a genetics-first approach to understanding IDDs can shed light on biology and etiology.

The journal has published a special themed issue representative of IDDRC research annually since 2018, each with a different theme and including peer-reviewed research from a broad range of disciplines, as well as guest commentary and review papers.
