Statistical Faculty

Kandace Fleming, PhD, has leads the Research Design & Analysis unit. She has over 26 years of experience in clinical trial research design, multilevel models, structural equation modeling, instrument development, and applying single-subject and small sample statistical techniques to meet the needs of specialty populations.  She primarily conducts analyses in SAS or MPlus. She has served as Co-PI, Co-I, or consultant as a quantitative methodologist on more than 50 funded projects from NIH and IES in the areas of communication, educational interventions, and individuals with disabilities.

Rebecca E. Swinburne Romine, PhD, has expertise in a variety of statistical models including multilevel models, logistic regression, confirmatory factor analysis, Cox regression, and profile analysis. She works primarily in SPSS, Mplus and SAS. She also is a frequent user of REDCap. She has served as a PI, Co-I, external evaluator, statistician or quantitative methodologist on numerous funded projects from NIH, CDC, DOE, OJJDP, and others in the fields of education, communication, behavioral interventions, and at-risk youth.

Jia Quan, PhD, plays a pivotal role in meeting the diverse research needs of fellow researchers and scientists. Her expertise is centered around quantitative methodological and analytical research, with a keen focus on quasi-experimental design, causal inference, psychometrics, and machine learning across the fields of social sciences, behavior sciences, and biomedical research. She is proficient in R, Python, SPSS, Mplus, and Tableau, occasionally utilizing SAS. Her contributions have been presented at esteemed conferences such as AERA, NCME, and IMPS.

Tyler Hicks, PhD, is responsible for assisting scientists in designing and implementing the analytic techniques needed to attract funders and advance their research. His main expertise focuses on Bayesian approaches to modeling data with reduced sample sizes. He is fluent in SAS and, on occasion, dabbles in R and Mplus. His scholarship has been published in Educational Researcher, American Journal of Evaluation, and Remedial and Special Education.

Database Engineering

Lisa Hallberg, Senior Research Engineer, is a full-stack web application developer and relational database architect. She administers LSI's REDCap instance and is active in the REDCap Consortium. She has over 25 years experience in enterprise web development, including PHP, Perl, Python, JavaScript, C#.Net, Linux server configuration, MySQL, and SQL Server.

Ed Auer,PhD, has over 30 years of experience developing software and managing data for research on human communication. He develops software for laboratory and web-based research data collection in Python, Javascript, R, and MATLAB. He is experienced with processing physiologic measures, behavioral responses, questionnaire data, and natural language responses. He has experience with data processing, management, and analysis in R, SPSS, REDCap, EEGLAB and Brainstorm.

Grant Coordination and Billing

Lisa Love supports RDA and the LSI Information Technology Services departments administratively and has been with LSI for over 17 years. She has been Grant Coordinator with LSI’s Central office, supporting many PIs over the years, including RDA PIs, with budgets, funding, purchases and travel. She also handles invoice creation for all of LSI, as Shared Service Center duties were adopted by LSI in 2022.
