AI SCORE

Two students looking at a computer with their teacherArtificial Intelligence Scored Composition to Improve Outcomes for Written Expression (AI-SCORE) focuses on promoting writing competency for SLDs, integrating evidence-based writing instructional strategies into the student writing process (e.g., feedback), and personalizing the writing process to improve writing outcomes for SLDs.

Overview:

AI-SCORE addresses limited writing competency among middle school students (Grades 5-9) with Learning Disabilities using an effective Al-supported digital progress monitoring tool to improve student writing outcomes. Components of the project include (a) Al supported progress monitoring (PM) program meant for student use, (b) the development of a teacher/family member tool that fosters students' application of writing feedback and instruction gained from the Al PM system to the school or home setting, (c) teacher and family members use of student data on writing competency to further direct writing skill development, and (d) the development of a process to sustain the implementation of the Al PM system by educators, parents, and students with learning disabilities.

About OSCAR:

OSCAR (On-screen Support for Student Composition Assistance in Real-time). OSCAR will be a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT)-based assistant.  Instead of waiting to discuss their writing progress monitoring compositions with a teacher, students with learning disabilities will be able to interact with OSCAR as they would a teacher during the writing conference.

About FEEDBAQ:

This project targets fidelity of student use of AI-SCORE through an implementation model that supports teacher collaboration and family member engagement in their efforts to implement AI-SCORE as a vital element for SLDs writing support. To do this, we are developing a set of tools, called FEEDBAQ (Family and Educator Essentials to Develop Agency in writing Quality), to support teacher/family member implementation, build teacher/family member competency in supporting writing skill application, and provide the technical assistance needed to achieve broad dissemination
