Multimodal Approach to Word Learning in Children with Autism - Kansas Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center Project 1
This project will investigate the effectiveness of a multimodal intervention aimed at teaching students with autism
and minimal verbal skills to produce new words with speech and augmentative communication (AAC). The
multimodal approach combines joint book reading, computerized instruction, and AAC. The proposed research will significantly advance the intellectual and developmental field by determining if and to what extent an innovative intervention is effective for a population of children with significant needs and few intervention options, and how individual and environmental variables predict individual treatment outcomes.
